      Answers to Student Questions

      This activity is a set of research questions for the students to answer. It can be used as a warm-up exercise for On Your Own Part 2 that requires them to do more in-depth research on a single topic. Below are short answers to guide you in grading the students' responses.

      Relevant National Science Education Standards

        Unifying Concepts and Processes — The questions involve understanding of the interworkings of ecological and technological systems.

        Physical Science — The molecular nature of matter and chemical reactions are central to Questions 3, 4, and 5.

        Science and Technology — The questions involve understandings about science and technology.

        Science in Personal and Social Perspectives — The questions deal with environmental quality, natural and human-induced hazards, and science and technology in local, national, and global challenges.

        History and Nature of Science — The questions involve the history of science and explore science as a human endeavor.
