Joe Labovsky in the Experimental Station 66 labReproduction from an original photograph, 1935Gift of Joe Labovsky |
Before testing a new polymer for its fiber-making properties, it was necessary to separate the polymer from the glass test tube in which it was made. This required breaking the tube. Joe Labovsky eliminated this tedious and wasteful procedure by devising a method for removing the sample by heating. This photograph shows Labovsky at a bench in the 66 Lab. On the other bench is a mallet for breaking the test tubes. At left is his co-worker Micky McGuire.
