The no. 3 spinning machine

        June 1, 1938
        Gift of Joe Labovsky

This machine was the prototype for the one in the pilot plant. The nylon chips were fed into the pipe hopper at top center and dropped onto a hot grid, where they melted. The melt flowed to a meter pump, through a filter pack, and out the spinneret. Pure nitrogen covered the chips and the melt until the filaments emerged from the spinneret.
