Spinneret filter pack

On its way to becoming filaments, molten nylon traveled through this filter pack. In the filter pack, layers of different grades of sand built up a pressure of 4000-5000 pounds per square inch, compressing melt bubbles that tend to form due to decomposition of the polymers at high temperatures. The pressure kept the melt gasses in solution until the nylon was extruded from the spinneret as filaments.
