Chemical Heritage Editorial Internship

Chemical Heritage, the magazine of the Chemical Heritage Foundation, seeks an energetic, organized, and highly motivated student intern to work with its editorial and production staff. The intern will work on long and short-term projects resulting in the timely publication of a four-color history of science magazine with a circulation of 20,000. The magazine is published three times a year and offers paid internships for each semester: fall, spring, and summer.

Duties

  • Carry out research and fact-checking
  • Write brief articles for Chemical Heritage magazine
  • Aid in image research for routine and feature articles
  • Attend and contribute to weekly editorial meetings
  • Help maintain online version of magazine
  • Read magazine proofs for errors and typos
  • Assist in mailings
  • Update magazine indexes
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications

  • Pursuit of degree in a related field, such as journalism, English, communications, history, history of science, or chemistry
  • Some knowledge of or interest in chemistry and/or the history of science
  • Demonstrated research skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office; familiarity with content management systems helpful
  • Ability to work both independently and with others
  • Comfortable in a deadline-driven environment; able to take responsibility for multiple projects
