A former academic librarian, I am currently a Ph.D. candidate in history at the University of Massachusets, Amherst. I have a B.A. in history from the University of California, San Diego; an MLIS from San Jose State University; and an ALM in the history of science from Harvard University’s Extension School.
I am writing a dissertation on the creation of a standard periodic table of the elements. Some of the avenues I am exploring are chemical pedagogy, visualization and graphic representation, classification and organization, and the role of national and international scientific organizations. While at CHF, I will be looking at 19th- and 20th-century chemistry textbooks in the Othmer Library’s collection, as well as using the archives of the American Chemical Society’s Division of Chemical Education, those of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, and the Edward G. Mazurs Collection of Periodic Systems.
