Key Changes in IHS Chemical Week

PPG Industries has named Glenn Bost senior v.p. and general counsel, effective July 1. Bost, who first joined PPG’s legal department in 1985, was most recently v.p. and associate general counsel/operations. He replaces James Diggs, whose July 1 retirement was announced in March.
Dow Chemical has named Bruce Duncan national account manager/construction services for Dow Roofing Systems. Duncan was most recently architectural field market manager/North American commercial building insulation. He first joined Dow in Canada in 1981.
Trevor Thorley has been named v.p. and COO of Amvac Chemical Company, a subsidiary of American Vanguard. Thorley first joined Amvac in January 2009. The company has also promoted James Lehman to national sales manager. Lehman was most recently Midwest regional sales manager.
James Stoppert has been named CEO of Rivertop Renewables, a renewable chemicals firm. Stoppert was most recently CEO of renewables firm Segetis. Prior to that, he served as senior business director for Cargill’s industrial bioproducts segment. He was also CEO and co-founder of Cargill Dow, a biopolymers joint venture later known as NatureWorks.
The Chemical Heritage Foundation has named Michal Meyer editor-in-chief/Chemical Heritage magazine and executive producer of the “Distillations” podcast. Meyer recently earned a PhD from the University of Florida at Gainesville, and has previously worked for The Jerusalem Post and the History of Science Society Newsletter.
Biogen Idec has named George Scangos, most recently CEO of drug discovery firm Exelixis, CEO. Scangos has served as CEO of Exelixis since 1996. He replaces Jim Mullen, who retired under pressure from a major Biogen investor.
DKSH has named Sherman Chau local business unit manager/performance materials for China, effective July 19. Chau was most recently head of industrial and consumer specialties/greater China and Korea for Clariant.
AkzoNobel has named Ra’eda Asad hair care project leader within its global personal care business. Asad was most recently principal scientist at Johnson & Johnson consumer products, and previously was a senior chemist at Huntsman.
Stacy Smith, senior v.p. and CFO of Intel, has been named to the board of biofuels firm Gevo. Smith has been Intel’s CFO since 2007.
