CHF Mourns Sheldon E. Isakoff
February 15, 2012 - Chadds Ford, Pa.
Board members, staff, and friends of the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) were saddened to learn of the passing of Sheldon E. Isakoff on Sunday, January 29, at his family home in Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania.
Isakoff played a significant role in CHF’s governance for nearly three decades. Only two years after CHF was founded in 1982, he joined the board of directors and served for fifteen years, including a three-year term as chairman. Twelve years as a member of CHF’s Heritage Council followed. Aside from his work at CHF, Isakoff spent his career at DuPont, rising from research engineer when he was hired in 1951 to director of the engineering research and development division when he retired in 1990. He was also a former president of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
“Sheldon Isakoff, CHF’s second board chair, was a gentle, thoughtful friend who yet possessed the necessary steel of character to steer CHF through tempestuous times with grace, skill, and imagination,” said Arnold Thackray, CHF’s founder and chancellor. “His presence and his crucial contributions to the foundation’s growth and success will be long remembered.”
