  Abstract of Interview

Jean C. Jones begins her interview by discussing her family life and how she began working at Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation. She talks about her early interactions with Gordon E. Moore and Robert N. Noyce. She details how she became a full-time secretary for Fairchild Semiconductor Corporation and her involvement with the Research and Development Laboratory and her supervisor, Victor Grinich. Jones chronicles her daily life while working at Fairchild and shares engaging stories about Gordon and Robert. Jones continues the interview by describing the move from Fairchild Semiconductor to the Intel Corporation. She recounts stories about the daily interactions in the office and details the working relationship between several of the staff including Andrew S. Grove, Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore. David C. Brock

David C. Brock is a senior research fellow with the Center for Contemporary History and Policy at the Chemical Heritage Foundation. As a historian of science and technology, he specializes in the history of semiconductor science, technology, and industry; the history of instrumentation; and oral history. Brock has studied the philosophy, sociology, and history of science at Brown University, the University of Edinburgh, and Princeton University.

In the policy arena Brock recently published Patterning the World: The Rise of Chemically Amplified Photoresists, a white-paper case study for the Center’s Studies in Materials Innovation. With Hyungsub Choi he is preparing an analysis of semiconductor technology roadmapping, having presented preliminary results at the 2009 meeting of the Industry Studies Association.
