The Future We Create

As part of its celebration of the International Year of Chemistry, last week Dow sponsored a webinar called The Future We Create, focused on the future of women in chemistry and science. The event was described as "60 Speakers providing 60 Perspectives in 60 Minutes," all promoting science as an ideal field for women's careers. (The webinar included numerous women from our Women in Chemistry oral history interview collection.)

Viewers heard a variety of personal vignettes offered by female leaders in chemistry and other sciences, business, and women's studies. Featured speakers were Mariette DiChristina, the executive editor of Scientific American; Connie Chow, executive director of the Science Club for Girls; and Linda Rosen, CEO of Change the Equation. Conference participants also had the opportunity to interact with featured speakers and other participants via digital and social media channels, adding their voices to the overall dialogue on how to advance the profession.

The webinar aired on the first day of Women’s History Month and in the year of the 100th anniversary of the awarding of the Nobel Prize in chemistry to Marie Curie. Join the dialogue yourself by viewing the webinar and letting us know what you think.
