Holidays and Hunger

Today is Thanksgiving and most Americans are celebrating with friends, families, and feasts. Such occasions raise our spirits and lie on the plus side of the ledger.

It’s also worth reflecting that not all of our fellow citizens share in the banquet. CHF’s Feeding the World conference held last week in New York offered a glimpse of how chemistry may lift our ability to feed the seven billion people who share the planet, especially the one billion who have close to nothing to eat. More will need to be done, though, and the heady intersection of science and humanity are likely our best hope.
