“Be flexible. You never know where life’s going to take you.”
Lisa Houston, director of applications engineering at PAC, LP, started her career when she least expected to. She shares her journey to remind young chemists that taking the road less traveled can lead to the most rewarding places.
Houston received a B.S. in biochemistry from the University of North Texas. Despite plans to attend graduate school, a summer job turned into a 7-year stint as a research chemist at ARCO Oil and Gas, leading her down a rewarding career path. Over the last 25 years Houston has gained experience in industry and through volunteering with organizations like the American Chemical Society and the American Society for Testing and Materials. These roles prepared her for jobs of increasing responsibility, from leading the analytical lab at Energy BioSystems to her current position at PAC, LP.
