CHF’s new
museum houses a groundbreaking exhibition, Making Modernity, and a changing exhibits gallery. The new facilities officially opened on 3 October 2008.
A historic building and renovation
CHF’s new integrated museum and conference center was a $20 million project that involved the renovation of the 1865 First National Bank building at CHF’s headquarters in Philadelphia. The transformation of the space and the design of Making Modernity were the collaborative effort of SaylorGregg Architects (formerly Dagit•Saylor), CHF’s curatorial and exhibit staff, and Ralph Appelbaum Associates, renowned designers of the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia and the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C.
The renovated facility employs ecologically sensitive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) principles, including new insulation, wall tile made of recycled glass, and bathroom floors made of recycled cans.

CHF’s conference facilities are integrated with the museum and offer a range of meeting and event spaces.
