Donald and Mildred Othmer were at the center of the international chemical community for over 40 years. An innovative engineer who held more than 150 patents, Don was Polytechnic University's first distinguished professor, and coeditor of the Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology. Mid was a high-school teacher, and later a New York fashion buyer, before becoming her husband's inseparable companion. Together the two were convivial globetrotters, keen financial investors, and generous philanthropists.
