About John C. Haas

John C. Haas is the son of the founder of the Rohm and Haas Company, a major global specialty chemicals company. Educated as a chemical engineer at MIT, he joined Rohm and Haas in 1942 and has held many positions in the company, including chairman of the board. He is a strong advocate of civic responsibility and the cause of the less fortunate. Especially notable is his work for Temple University Hospital, for the Balch Institute for Ethnic Studies, and for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Philadelphia. Haas played a crucial role in the establishment of the Chemical Heritage Foundation’s predecessor organization (the Center for the History of Chemistry) in 1982. For more than two decades he has served on CHF’s advisory boards and development committees, and in June 2003 he completed a six-year term on CHF’s board of directors.

The John C. Haas Fellowships in the History of the Chemical Industries are made possible by the generosity of Mr. John C. Haas.
