Consider a Planned Gift

Planned giving is any kind of charitable estate-planning that benefits you and your family now and CHF in the future. Individuals can create a significant legacy through one of several options for planned gifts, many of which provide income-, gift-, and estate-tax savings. CHF welcomes planned gifts in the following forms:

Wills

One of the easiest ways to provide future support for CHF is to include the organization in your will. Outright bequests to CHF are fully deductible for federal estate-tax purposes and in most states are also exempt from inheritance tax.

Deferred Payment Gift Unitrusts

A deferred payment gift unitrust offers you the opportunity to claim a charitable tax deduction on your income taxes in the year of your gift, with the payments to CHF beginning at a designated future time. The longer the deferral, the higher the deduction allowed.

Charitable Remainder Unitrusts

A charitable remainder unitrust involves a transfer of appreciated assets to a separately managed trust that provides you or your beneficiaries with an annual payment for life or a specified period of time. At the end of that time, the trust passes to CHF.

Charitable Lead Trusts

A charitable lead trust allows you to preserve a large portion of your estate and pass assets tax-free to yourself or your beneficiaries. The trust holds an income-producing asset for a fixed term, or your lifetime, during which income is paid to CHF. At the end of the trust term, the asset is returned to you or your beneficiary.

Retirement Plans and Life Insurance

Designating CHF as a beneficiary of all or a specified portion of your 401(k) or other retirement-plan assets can save your estate both income and federal taxes. You may also designate CHF as a beneficiary of a life-insurance policy.
