Chemical distribution is increasingly an important link in the supply chain of the chemical enterprise. Almost no one “goes it alone” in the 21st century. Brenntag, headquartered in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, operates a global network with more than 480 locations in more than 70 countries, thus making it the market leader in full line distribution. Brenntag began chemical distribution in 1912 and entered the U.S. market in the 1970s. 

In this month’s Joseph Priestley Society presentation, Steven M. Pozzi, executive VP and COO, Brenntag North America, will disclose how his company differentiates itself from other chemical distributors.

  About the Keynote

Pozzi’s presentation will focus on several innovative ideas used by Brenntag to differentiate itself in the chemical-distribution marketplace. Pozzi will highlight three areas: Brenntag’s business philosophy and culture, its logistics solutions, and its efforts to develop commercial excellence.

Pozzi will share how Brenntag North America has defined a business philosophy, communicating and teaching this philosophy across a wide range of operating companies, branches, and functional teams. He will give logistics solution examples from the company’s full line distribution, minibulk, and oil and gas businesses. He will also give insight into how Brenntag establishes commercial excellence in its sales organization through training and sell price management, with the goal of improving profitability.

 Speaker Biographies

Steven Pozzi graduated from Cornell University in 1981 with a degree in chemical engineering. He entered the chemical industry in 1981 as a technical sales representative for Union Carbide, based in New Jersey. In 1986 Pozzi joined BP Chemicals as the U.S. specialty sales manager in New York. While with BP he was posted to a three-year overseas assignment as marketing manager in England. In 1991 Pozzi left BP and joined with partners to start a chemical-distribution company named Quadra Chemicals in New Jersey. Over the next 15 years Pozzi developed the Quadra business into a $100 million company, which was acquired in 2005 by Brenntag North America. Pozzi joined the Brenntag team and in 2007 became president of Brenntag Pacific, headquartered in Los Angeles. In 2014 he joined the Brenntag North America leadership team in Reading, Pennsylvania, as executive vice president and chief operating officer.
