Evi Numen, “Imagining the Body Abnormal: Art & Artifice in Historical Medical Photography”
Science on Tap is a monthly gathering that features a brief, informal presentation by a scientist or other expert followed by lively conversation.
Medical photography has been used to document, educate and expose, with more or less artfulness. Evi Numen gave a talk illustrated with selections from The Historical Medical Photography Collection of the Mütter Museum. Not for the faint of heart.
Evi Numen is the exhibitions manager of the Mütter Museum of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia. She has an M.F.A. in photography and graphic design from the University of Pennsylvania where she also got to dissect cadavers in the medical school’s Gross Anatomy course. Numen has an eclectic body of visual work that has been exhibited in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and New York.
Presented by the Mütter Museum of The College of Physicians of Philadelphia.
